Chapters
Chapters are formed when a group of people wish to expand the efforts of
The Maryland Native Plant Society in a specific
geographic region. Working within policies set by the board, Chapters have
a considerable degree of autonomy. Chapter boards address local issues and
tailor programs to their own area's interests and needs.
Most Chapters use either counties or ecosystem boundaries and can have
overlapping jurisdictions. At this point, members cannot choose their Chapter
affiliation; it is based on the address of their membership. Affiliation is
automatically granted to each member within the appropriate Chapter.
The Society can provide members with time, resources, and leadership skills
to devote to the Chapter. All Chapters must abide by the basic mission of the
Maryland Native Plant Society (view the mission statement),
and for all Society policies, the word Chapter
can be substituted for the word Committee.
For information on the expectations for a Chapter, view the
Chapter Guidelines (PDF, ~62 KB).
