Pilot Serpentine Barren, Nature Conservancy Preserve, Cecil Co.

Wes Knapp, Botanist, Maryland Natural Heritage Program and Conference Speaker
Roger Latham, Research Ecologist and Conference Speaker

Pilot is an excellent example of how an area's geology determines a natural community's character.  Soils are thin and nutrient poor but rich in minerals, resulting in an unusual community of plants. This preserve is only open with prior permission from The Nature Conservancy.

Registration is restricted to the fall conference attendees. You can select this field trip when you register for the conference.
