We will venture away from the Forts and instead walk in the northern regions of Rock Creek Park to investigate the uplands and the stream valley, mostly along the horse trails. As a winter trip we will concentrate on tree ID using the bark and branch structure while also observing the evergreens that dot this mostly deciduous woods.

Leaders: Mary Pat Rowan and Lou Aronica

Directions: Because much of Beech Drive in closed on weekends, directions are difficult to give. I suggest that you go to Google Maps and put in the destination of 1800 Parkside Drive, Washington, D.C. 20012. We will park on the 1800 block of Parkside Drive which you can get to from Kalmia Road or from Wise Road to West Beech drive and then a left turn onto Parkside.

Bring: Water and lunch.

Note: Easy to moderate walk. If heavy snow or rain threatens, call Sunday morning before 9 am to check on status of walk.

Registration is not required.
