If we are lucky, Rachel Carson's famous wild azaleas (pinxters) will be in full bloom. We'll see what is going on inside some of the five deer exclosures and walk along the Hawlings River. The terrain includes meadows, rocky hilltops, and bottomland; so a variety of spring flowers and ferns will be seen. Expect to see and hear a variety of birds. A lovely picnic spot is included.

Leader: Steve Parks
Dr. Parks has taken on stewardship duties at the park, erecting and maintaining deer protection for some areas and plants, and suppressing some invasive species. He knows some of the native species at RCCP, and trusts that participants in the walk will help identify the rest.

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Limited to 18.

Notes: Most of the trail is well graded but we will encounter some mud.

Bring: Bring a picnic, skeeter repellent, and wear mud shoes. Binoculars and loupe may be handy.

Cancellation Policy: Cancelled if severe rainy weather.
