Topic: Native Tree Identification for Beginners
Speaker: Louisa Thompson
Learning to recognize our native trees is a process much like getting to know your neighbors. In any location in central Maryland, there are probably less than two dozen species, and in fall they put on their most distinctive dress to help us out. C. Ritchie Bell, one of the fathers of the native plant movement, and photographer Anne Lindsey put together a great field guide for beginners, "Fall Color and Woodland Harvests," with an easy key and superbly useful photographs. Louisa Thompson will teach us how to use this guide (which will be available to buy), and will provide other tips for identifying common native trees, shrubs, and woody vines. All are welcome.
