Battling Botanical Bullies at Bear Pen

April 24 from 8:30 to 11:30 am [RAIN DATE - April 27]

Adult volunteers are needed to continue control efforts of Japanese spiraea and garlic mustard in the Bear Pen Run area of Savage River State Forest. Bear Pen is designated as a Type 1 Wildland and like other natural areas around the State is threatened by a variety of exotic invasive species.

Savage River State Forest is providing logistical support. The Savage River Watershed Association is loaning collection buckets and gloves for the removal work. The Western Mountains Chapter of MNPS is sponsoring the project and will provide snacks and drinks for volunteers.

Participants should wear water-proof trail shoes/boots and carry their own water and tick spray. Sorry, but no pets are allowed and no rest rooms are available.

Registration is required but is not available through this website. To register (or for more details on the project), please contact Ron Boyer by phone at 301-895-3686 or by email at rbiodiversity@hughes.net
