Nature hike coupled with the Great Backyard Bird Count of local birds on four days (2/16-2/20). In addition to birds, we will also be identifying trees and whatever plants we may come across. This is a great chance to get outdoors, learn about birds, trees, and other plants, and enjoy what nature has to offer at this time of the year.
Leader: Matt T. Salo

Directions: Approach Cheverly from either south or north on B-W parkway; take the exit for Cheverly onto Rte. 202 (Landover Rd), head east a few hundred feet and turn right onto Cheverly Ave heading south. Watch out for a speed camera on your left. Continue 6 blocks to Forest Rd (after a small park on your left).
Turn right on Forest Rd and continue 3 blocks until the road splits; stay to the right and continue straight ahead for 2 more blocks passing Crest Ave and then turn right onto Tremont Ave; go to its end and park on the street. [GPS orientation - near 3398 at end of Tremont Ave, Cheverly Md; owners are not associated with the hike].
Other Hikes: If you are an experienced hiker and and don't mind difficult, rough, cross-country terrain, you may also join Matt on Friday the 12th or Monday the 15th on additional hikes along Lower Beaverdam Creek (rubber boots a must), or around Euclid Woods and the PG Hospital hill. Both morning and afternoon hikes are possible. Please call 301-341-1261 ahead for times and directions.
If you can't make it to any of the outings, you can simply observe plants and count birds around your home or neighborhood during any of the four days of the count and still make a contribution to citizen science.
