  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Edgewater, MD

Registration

Leaders: Dr. Dennis Whigham and Karyn Molines
Location: Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Mathias Lab Building,  Edgewater

Volunteers are needed to conduct plant surveys throughout the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater MD (Anne Arundel County).

This primarily indoor workshop will provide an overview of the original vegetation survey that was done in the 60s and give people a copy of the republication of the flora. Dr. Whigham will describe the strategy for doing a floristic survey of the property that would include the areas that were not originally sampled as well as re-sampling areas from the original survey.

We can talk about other issues such as how to collect voucher samples for the SERC herbarium.

People who become engaged could become official volunteers at SERC. After completing this process, volunteers would get badges to allow access to SERC outside of normal public hours. It also give a few benefits such as discounts at the other Smithsonian museum shops.

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
