Speaker: Rod Simmons, MNPS Board member and former president

Description: Rod will focus on stream restoration from the perspectives of natural resource management and protection, with the principles of Do No Harm and Best Management Practices as the overarching goals. The merits of the often related practices of stream bank restoration and mitigation banking; removal and control of non-native invasive species; and pressures to plant after invasive plants are removed will be discussed and qualified.  Case studies of often destructive, unnecessary restoration projects for small order, interior forested streams and wetlands will be contrasted with examples of quality, restorative practices of large order streams.  Best Management Practices will also be suggested.

Location: Kensington Library, 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington, MD

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
