Topic: From the Mountains to the Sea: Maryland’s Natural Areas

Speaker: Kerry Wixted, Wildlife Education & Outreach Specialist, MD Department of Natural Resources 

Using wonderful images of native plants, animals, and landscapes, Wixted will describe Maryland’s 31 unique natural areas which the public is encouraged to visit. From the ancient peatlands in the western part of the State to a globally rare serpentine savanna at Soldiers Delight, Maryland is a small state with a lot to offer. 

Kerry Wixted is an education and outreach specialist for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service. She runs several state-wide programs such as Project WILD for educators and Wild Acres for backyard wildlife habitat enthusiasts. Wixted holds a B.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management from Frostburg State University, and a M.S. degree in Biology from West Virginia University.

This free program will begin promptly at 7:00 pm; the public is welcome to attend.

Directions: From I-68 take exit 33 (Braddock Rd & Midlothian Rd exit). Follow Braddock Road approximately 1.3 miles to stop sign. Turn left onto Park Avenue. Drive a short distance and turn left, following signs for the Compton Parking Lot.
