MNPS Field Trip: Civil War Fort Site-Fort DeRussy in Rock Creek Park (Sunday)

154th walk in the Wild Washington series

We will return to Fort DeRussy in Rock Creek Park and along the way concentrate on tree ID using tree bark, buds and branch structures. We will also identify the evergreens that dot this mostly deciduous wood.

Notes: Easy to moderate walk.
Bring:  Binoculars, magnifying glass. Water, lunch and a garbage bag to sit on.
Cancellation Policy: If heavy snow or rain threatens, call Claudine at 240-472-2803 on Sunday morning before 9 am to check on status of walk.

Directions:  We will gather at 10 AM in the parking lot of the Nature Center in Rock Creek Park. From Military Road in DC, enter the Park by turning into Glover Road. You will see signs on the left for the Nature Center and Stables. Take the direction to the Nature Center. We will make our way into the trails of the Fort by following the short path between the Nature Center and Military Road.

If it is very cold, we will stay outside for up to 2 hours. If not we will extend the walk to 2 pm.
