Sponsoring Organization: Maryland Native Plant Society

General DescriptionWe will visit the Maryland Ornithological Society's Cooper Sanctuary in Frederick County in order to develop a plant list for them. On this spring walk we will probably find quite a few flowers as the trees continue to leaf out. We will spend the morning at the Cooper Sanctuary, then eat lunch at the Chestnut Picnic area (facilities available at the picnic area) of Catoctin Mountain Park and spend the afternoon exploring the Owen's Creek area of the park. The Showy Orchis (Galearis spectabilis) should be in bloom along with other flowers. The Owen's Creek area has both the normally pink and white Showy Orchis as well as the all White Showy Orchis (Galearis spectabilis forma gordinierri).
