Speaker: Rod Simmons

The northern coastal pine barrens reach their southernmost extent in the “sand belt” of northern Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties, MD, and traverse the Patuxent Research Refuge (PRR) and Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC).

These unique natural communities, protected for decades as national conservation lands, are located directly in the path of the planned super conducting Maglev railway proposed between Washington and Baltimore, a project which is presently undergoing an environmental impact review by the Federal Railway Administration under the National Environmental Policy Act.

Learn about the unique natural resources that are located on the Patuxent Research Refuge and BARC and why they would be “irretrievably” lost if the Maglev project is approved.
