MNPS Field Trip: Uncultivated - Exploring Wild Urban Plants

  • 05/06/2012
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Jones Falls at Village of Cross Keys, Baltimore
Un-cancelled

This year, we will explore Baltimore wild urban plants through the seasons.  Artist Lynn Cazabon will discuss her ongoing project, Uncultivated, while demonstrating how she goes about choosing a site and photographing the plants she finds there. Along with horticulturist Chris Partain, she will also discuss attributes of the plants we discover at this site. Uncultivated is a multi-faceted representation of the urban landscape of Baltimore which seeks to draw attention to the tiny pockets of wildness within the urban environment in order to break down hierarchies that privilege certain aspects of nature at the expense of others. (http://uncultivated.info).

This is a moderately difficult walk that will require some scrambling.  Wear rugged footwear that can get wet.  Sweet briars and Wineberries line the sloped path, so gloves may be advantageous.

Location: Park at end of Village Square Rd. at Village of Cross Keys.  5100 Falls Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21210

Call Chris' cell if necessary: (703) 629-9680.
