Hike on South Mountain starting at Gathland State Park heading south. Our footpath will be the Appalachian Trail. This is a predominantly hickory/oak forest featuring other species including Birches, Beeches, Black Walnuts, Mountain Laurels and Witch-Hazels. Goldenrods and asters will be blooming. We will also see the remnants and fruit of spring ephemerals.
After 2 hours of walking through the forest while leisurely looking at trees, shrubs, grasses, plants and ferns, we will retrace our steps.
