Participants in the workshop will be introduced to ginseng’s botany, biology, ecology, markets, growing options, propagation techniques and management issues (pests, theft, regulations) in a series of indoor/outdoor presentations and forest walks. Eric Burkhart, a veteran ginseng workshop organizer and author of several ginseng pamphlets, will lead the instruction. Eric conducts research on native plants of economic importance (e.g., American ginseng and goldenseal) and teaches agroforestry courses for the Penn State School of Forest Resources. His doctoral thesis thoroughly documented and evaluated the woodland ginseng industry in Pennsylvania.
More Information: Contact Eric Burkhart at 814-863-2000 or by email at epb6@psu.edu for further information or to register. The cost is $15, which includes a small quantity (~200) of seed to take home and plant.
