Riley’s Lock is the home of the Seneca Aqueduct, Seneca Creek and the ruins of the Seneca Stonecutting Mill. We will head upriver to the stonecutting mill then back track to the tow path and walk upriver to view the remains of the several sandstone quarries that supplied stone for canal locks, the Smithsonian Castle and Cabin John Bridge. The quarries and the wonderful stone walls lining the canal are only really visible in winter. Quite a diversity of trees.

Leader: Marney Bruce and Allen Browne

Location: Rileys Lock along the C&O Canal

Notes: Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

Bring: binoculars, water, snacks, field guides

Cancellation Policy: canceled in the case of hard rain

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Limited to 15 people. Directions will be included in registration confirmation.
