Sponsoring Organization: Maryland Biodiversity Project (MBP)
Leader: Sue Muller (MBP)
Location: Forte Foote Park, Oxon Hill, MD https://www.nps.gov/fofo/index.htm
Description: In 2025, MBP began a mini-bioblitz or "quad-busting" fieldtrip series to survey United States Geological Survey quadrangle maps (quads) across Maryland that have less than 500 living species documented. MBP editor Sue Muller has been leading a series of “quad-busting” fieldtrips in the Alexandria quad (Forte Foote Park, Prince George's County) and also in Leesburg and Waterford quads (Montgomery County). She wants to extend the opportunity to MNPS members to join the effort. Sue's goal is to document as many species as she can using iNaturalist. MNPS members can greatly contribute by surveying for plants! Sue plans something for everyone. Habitats include mature forest, marsh, meadow, edge, streams and the Potomac River. There will certainly be a focus on ephemerals and migratory birds.
Notes: Meet at the Parking Lot. Plenty of parking spaces. Please note that there are no restrooms in the area. If you want to extend the scouting to the afternoon, look for the Oxon Hill Farm mini-bioblitz announcement.
For additional information: Please Email Sue Muller @ mailto:green12205@gmail.com with your intent to participate and receive general final details of the event.
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED.
Bring: Hat, water bottle, snacks, usual outdoor gear for a nature adventure. Please also have iNaturalist on your phone. There will be a free lesson if you have never used it before!
Cancellation Policy: If the trip is cancelled for weather and rescheduled, the trip leader will email everyone at least one day in advance.
