EASTERN SHORE FIELD TRIP Co-sponsoring Organization: Maryland Biodiversity Project Leader: Jim Brighton Location: Dorchester Co
Description: This trip is going to be a bit different from other MNPS fiend trips. We will be doing small stops and covering more ground s we can see a greater variety of species.
We will meet at 9am at the Cambridge Welcome Center at the foot of the Choptank Bridge in Cambridge, MD (38.571282, -76.064676). From here we will carpool to various locations across the southeastern part of Dorchester County. Most of the day will be spent roadside botanizing with a couple longer walks thrown into the mix.
We will be exploring salt marshes, oligohaline marshes, freshwater non-tidal swamps, and ancient sand dune habitats.
Notes: It will be hot. It will be buggy. There will be ticks and chiggers. Please dress and prepare yourselves accordingly. We will try to throw in a bathroom break around mid-day. This will be at a convenience store in Vienna. Please bring all your water, drinks, snacks, and lunch.
Carpooling is a must for this trip. There will be no exceptions. If you don't want to carpool, please consider going on a different field trip. There will be very limited parking at most of our stops. This is going to be a long day with the trip finishing around 4pm.
With those caveats said, we will see many very rare species with very limited distributions. Plus, it's going to be a lot of fun!
