Your Comments are Needed on Proposed Invasive Plant Regulations!

The Maryland Department of Agriculture has released proposed changes to the regulations for the 2024 invasive plant bill. The revised regulations extend the phase-out period so nurseries can sell off existing stock of an invasive plant just placed on the Prohibited List. The phase-out lengthens from 2 years for woody plants grown in- ground to 5 years, and from 1 year to 2 years for all other plants. The current phase-out period is reasonable, and extending it increases harm to our natural areas. MDA is accepting public comments on the updated regulations through June 16, 2025. We encourage you to submit comments requesting that there be NO changes to the phase-out periods. Click on the link to read how to submit comments. Read more...(pdf download)
